From WABDs sign-on in the early 1940s, DuMont innovated numerable firsts in programming and engineering. The DuMont Network was home to the first reality TV series, Ted Mack’s “The Original Amateur Hour,” as well as the first game show, Dennis James “Cash and Carry.” From the studios in Wanamakers Department Store,“Captain Video and His Video Rangers” used futuristic props fashioned from the Wanamakers auto parts department! And DuMont brought us Jackie Gleason. DuMont pioneered daytime, On November 1, 1948 DuMont dropped the test pattern for regularly scheduled daytime programming. Johnny hosted America’s very first daytime network entertainment series, Johnny Olsons Rumpus Room. RIP, DuMont!
