Resistance Movement – not partisans, but real defense Candidate for president of Ukraine and leader of the Batkivshchyna Party Yulia Tymoshenko has announced that more than one thousands citizens of Ukraine in various regions signed up on the first day of recruitment for voluntary units to defend Ukraine from aggression. “Registration was announced yesterday and by this afternoon more than a thousand citizens with priceless experience and ability to defend Ukraine responded and are ready to attend special training camps,” Yulia Tymoshenko said while speaking today with the residents of Monastyrska in the Ternopil oblast. The leader of Batkivshchyna stressed that the territorial defense brigades composed of former military and participants of UN peacekeeping missions will be helping the Ukrainian army defend the country. “This recruitment of highly qualified military personnel is not chaotic and is not in opposition to the army. This is an integral part of our defense capacity,” she said. Yulia Tymoshenko added that the voluntary groups are being formed in accordance with Ukrainian law. “We are forming territorial defense brigades that are directly provided for by the law on defense. These aren’t partisan groups, these are real military formations that will be serving in the army and defending Ukraine,” the leader of Batkivshchyna said. “I believe in this voluntary army. I believe that this army will effectively defend Ukraine,” Yulia Tymoshenko said.
