Respect is a funny thing. Working with horses you find out it is - TopicsExpress

Respect is a funny thing. Working with horses you find out it is not given it is earned. But with people it is the opposite. You are taught from childhood to show respect to others. Good news, both are correct as there are two meanings of the word. One is to show consideration for or courteous regard. The other is to hold in high honor, regard or esteem. So while I respect (show courteous regard to) all people, Respect (hold in high esteem) is earned and can be lost yet I will still respect (show courteous regard to) that person because that is the right thing to do. The bummer is that Respect (high regard) from a horse is far more coveted by me than that of man because I know the horse is honest and their Respect is from the heart. Man is fickle and their Respect is often used for power and/or control. So it is a real treat when I get to work with people of honor and integrity whose Respect is coveted as much as the horse. You are the people that make my job fun and rewarding. Thank you!
