Respected Malawian Newspaper apologizes to Dr Mahtani and says Zambia reports website owned by Dickson Jere & Chanda Chimba cant be trusted. Recent reports published by an online publication named and styled Zambia Reports insinuating that Finance Bank Zambia Plc (FBZ) is not in good standing with Central Bank officials in both Zambia and Malawi are not only misleading but mischievous, malicious and defamatory. While it is true that FBZ is in negotiations with Tetrad Investment Bank of Zimbabwe for a possible acquisition of equity in the said bank, the rest of the story is and has no basis or truth whatsoever. The on-going negotiations have the approval of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and FBZ looks forward to a mutually beneficial conclusion. In their usual malicious manner Zambia Reports refers to Finance Bank operations in Malawi, ostensibly to create the impression that the bank is unscrupulous, corrupt and unethical in its practices. They intentionally neglect to state that Finance Bank was granted a License to conduct Banking Business in Malawi under License Number BL014, on 13th May 2014. In this regard, the process (of opening the Bank in Malawi) has reached a very advanced stage with the Head office situated in Lilongwe. There is also an imminent branch network offshoot from inception opening in Lilongwe, Blantyre and Limbe. The Bank premises are all but ready to start conducting business, subject to inspection by the Reserve Bank of Malawi, pursuant to standard international banking procedures. This sort of malicious reporting by Zambia Reports is not new. On 11th September, 2014 Zambia Reports published an article on FBZ Chairman Dr. Rajan Mahtani which was nothing short of being scandalous. In the process they misled respected Malawian newspaper The Daily Times into repeating the scandalous libel. Upon realizing that the story was unfounded, the Times Group Legal Counsel Innocent Kalua wrote to Finance Bank Lawyers in Malawi Messrs Destone and Company admitting that the story had no factual basis and aplogising for their error. (letter attached) The Legal Counsel is quoted as saying, “Our Reporter conducted independent investigations with the Reserve Bank of Malawi and found that the allegations in Zambia Reports were not correct. Our reporter talked to Reserve Bank of Malawi publicist Mbane Ngwira who told her that the Reserve Bank of Malawi had already granted the New Finance Bank a license to operate in the country.” From the foregoing, it is clear that the articles published on Zambia Reports are the work of unscrupulous individuals masquerading as Journalists bent on tarnishing the image of both the Bank and that of Dr. Mahtani. That explains why they have resorted to using pseudo names to “circumvent” litigation. However, it may not be too long from now before their whole scheme explodes in their faces and behold lie bare for everyone to see who these self proclaimed zealous and belligerent “masked egwugwus” really are (2014/HP/1763). In a recent article “Nevers Sells out MMD to Cartel” Zambia Reports makes reference to an alleged meeting when it is common knowledge that Dr. Mahtani is out of the Country. Time and again Zambia Reports have made allegations of meetings Dr. Mahtani is alleged to have had when in actual fact he has been out of the Country and no such meetings could have taken place except in the figment of their imaginations. There is apparent Panic by these unscrupulous individuals with an agenda to damage the good reputation of Dr. Mahtani. We urge Dr. Mahtani to now also lodge criminal complaints for the law to take its course to bring this rot to an end. While it is not in Dr. Mahtani’s interest to wage war against disgruntled and misled mercenaries who use their pens for hatchery, we will always endeavor to portray the true picture in a timely and appropriate manner whenever these malicious articles appear.
