Resume? Harvey named SPCA shelter interim manager by BRIAN GRAVES Banner Staff Writer Kristen Harvey has been named the interim manager of operations for the SPCA’s county animal shelter. Harvey, who has been serving as the shelter’s office manager, immediately assumes the duties from Jordan Williams, who is currently on a leave of absence. SPCA President Ed Elkins said at Monday’s meeting, when the action was taken, board members had interviewed Harvey after the Sept.15 meeting. “After discussions with her and reviewing her resume, we feel it would be appropriate to appoint her [to the position],” Elkins said. The appointment passed unanimously. Harvey reported the total intake for the past week was 59 with 39 adoptions and 25 rescues. She also requested the board’s guidance on installing a window in the cat room as well as a sink for bathing the smaller animals amongst other cleaning needs. Harvey said a window has been donated, it just needs to be installed. Board member Dan Rawls said he had a sink that could be used, but there would need to be an inspection of the sink area to ensure there is appropriate drainage available. Another appointment on the agenda, that of a new board member to replace the late Perk Evans, was tabled until the next scheduled meeting on Monday, Sept. 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the Commission meeting room. Rawls reported the new SPCA “is up and running” with everything mechanically sound and interior modifications almost completed. “We are waiting for the sales tax exemption [to be received] before we make the tag transfer so we don’t have to pay sales tax on that transaction,” Rawls said. “That would save us around $150.” Treasurer Chris Turner recommended the organization change its current auto insurance from a comprehensive policy to a liability policy. The change would save $500 per year from the current policy, but Turner is authorized to get a quote through at least two other companies. Board members also approved a RFP (request for proposal) for veterinarian services. The SPCA will be accepting bids from interested parties to supply one or more of the following options for the last quarter of the year: - Cats: spay/neuter surgery, rabies and FVRCP vaccinations and microchips. - Dogs: spay/neuter surgery, rabies, DHPP and Bordetella vaccines and microchip. - Cats or Dogs: spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine only and microchip. Bidding parties have until Oct. 1 to respond with payment terms, available processing capacity (animals per week) and operating hours and days services would be available.
