Retard Rant... Certainly heartbreaking to find out the full year business and financial results for Qantas. Over the years I have heard many reasons why our national carrier is facing unprecedented woes...but apart from the decision to not begin purchasing Boeing 777s around 10 years ago...my opinion is that the predicament at hand lies squarely at the feet of Alan Joyce and the asleep at the wheel current board of directors. Such a typical knee-jerk reaction by any unimaginative and incompetent management team, is to immediately punt a shitload of staff. It is always the go to measure to start saving dollars instantly, and does not require any business acumen at all. To me, a company does not wake up one morning and discover that they have 5000 redundant positions. If indeed they are overstaffed, then that is the fault of management...as after all they are the people who recruit... and if there was a downturn in business then the normal policy would be to accept voluntary redundancies and or trim staff through natural attrition, over a period of time in line with the downturn and to conduct this requirement responsibly. But no...Qantas woke up one morning (apparently) and discovered that there were 5000 able bodied employees that were sitting around playing cards at some giant table in an equally gigantic lunch room. And now I had to endure this supercilious little nob, our illustrious Mr Joyce, attempting to calm the waters with his Everything is now fine...nothing to see here...the future is all rosy... type press conference, while the board members around him attempt to rearrange the deckchairs on the Titanic... As I have stated before...what galls me the most, is that the once proud workers at the coalface have had no ability to change the outcome and in this case have had to helplessly standby while enduring the systematic dismemberment of a once sound business that was once managed by competent souls who had a vision that extended beyond their next bonus. Lets just hope that by Christmas, the present board along with Joyce fall on their swords and quietly disappear. I should state here, that I have no vested interest in Qantas other than having to sit here on a weekly basis witnessing another large business becomes a laughing stock on the world stage...purely caused by bottom dweller management style.
