Retired doctor from Woodgreen charged with rape A WOODGREEN doctor has been charged with indecent assault and rape in connection with the investigation that was launched in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal. Retired consultant paediatrician Michael Salmon worked at hospitals including Stoke Mandeville, where Savile is known to have targeted patients while he was based there as a fundraiser. Thames Valley Police has confirmed that 78-year-old Salmon has been charged with one count of rape and four counts of indecent assault following advice from Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service. A spokesman said: “Michael Salmon from Woodgreen, Hampshire, was arrested on November 20 and charged the same day. “The charges relate to incidents involving four alleged victims from 1972 to 1985 at various hospitals in the Aylesbury area, including Stoke Mandeville Hospital. “The charges stem from the Metropolitan Police Service’s Operation Yewtree.” Salmon was once praised by Princess Diana for his work with sick children after he organised a trip to Disney World in 1987 for 300 disabled children. He worked at Stoke Mandeville in the 80s but police are stressing that none of the allegations against Dr Salmon involve Savile. The doctor lives in the New Forest with his wife. Salmon has been bailed to appear at Aylesbury Magistrates Court on December 17.
