Retraction re carriage horses...Yesterday we sent you an email about the risk to New York Citys carriage horses, and our fear that these abused horses might be sent to slaughter if a particular bill to ban these horse-drawn carriage rides passed. We were incorrect about their fate. To set the record straight: If New York City bans horse carriage rides, the horses will be safe! Thanks to the tireless efforts of animal protection groups like NYCLASS, HSUS, ASPCA, and the support of New York Citys new mayor-elect Bill de Blasio, none of the carriage horses would be sent to slaughterhouses when the carriage industry is phased out. Rather, these groups would ensure that all of the horses go to loving homes.
