Your purpose was existing before your conception therefore, it is inadequate and incorrect to limit your purpose to a talent or skill you acquired without God’s input. When you think of Moses, you’ll immediately remember the man that led the children of Israel out of Egypt, into the Promise Land. No one remembers Moses as a warrior or as a man that was mighty in words and in deeds (Acts 7:22) even though he was all that, because he was much more than that. Three identities are possible for you: Your first identity is usually what your friends, family and acquaintances call you. This can be the nickname arising from your teenage years. It is surprising how some people let this identity carry on into their future and they live life in the shadow of what happened in the days of ignorance. Your second identity is what the devil wants you to be. Left to Satan, Rahab would have remained a professional harlot through the generations, but God called her an ancestress of Jesus. Early in my ministry, the devil wanted to take the life of my son. It was a major battle but God gave us the victory. Had we lost the battle, the devil would have done havoc at a time I was just trying to prove that God called me. The lesson here is that if you will not carry the identity that the devil wants to give you, you must be ready to fight (James 4:7b). Your third and greatest identity lies in your divine purpose. This is what God created and designed you to be; don’t settle for anything less. You have not lived until you discover and fulfil your destiny. I recall a story of a man who was in heaven and was told to ask any question he had. He asked “who was the greatest army general that ever lived?” The angel showed him the portrait and the man was his neighbour while he was alive. He shouted “I know him! He was never a soldier for one day.” The angel replied “that is true, but if he ever joined the army, God purposed him to be the greatest army general that ever lived.” PRAYER: Holy Spirit, show me who I was created to be so that I can rise to the height of my purpose in Jesus’ name.
