Revelation Lesson 6 Pg 2 Now. before you read this lesson read chapter 16 entirely. You have noticed v. 1 There comes a voice out of the temple to 7 angels and it says to them “ go your ways, and pour the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth” The previous troubles were warnings; these are not, they ,are judgments. .The previous troubles were mercy to help people turn to God. These are not mercy; these are justice. . Egypt. must have thought about these plagues when they read Chapter 16. God eventually destroyed the nation of Egypt. There are no Egyptians living today. The people living in Egypt today are Arabs from Arabia - not Egyptians. One of the mightiest empires in the world is gone. When Pharaoh refused for the last time to let the Hebrew people go, Egypts doom was settled. To stand against God, sooner or later, is to sign your death warrant. Some people think that Chapter 16, because of some of the plagues, refers to nuclear warfare. I dont believe the Bible tells us that the world will end by a man pressing a button. This is Gods series of plagues and Gods judgment. 1. First, there are boils on the skin or open running ulcers. The World Health Organization will not be able to do anything about it. It almost looks like the actual tattoo of the world dictator on the forehead or hand become infected because the people of God who are not marked are not affected. It may be that those who voluntarily accepted the mark of the beast now receive the mark of God in the form of sores. 2. There is blood in the sea which is not just red, but congealed, which means all life in the sea dies. 3. Not only salt water but, fresh water too, turns to something like blood and becomes undrinkable. (See v.5, 6). These people have been drinking the blood of martyrs and now they are getting blood to drink from their own taps. God makes the punishment fit the crime. 4. The atmosphere which protects us from the cosmic rays of the sun will change so that the sun is unbearably hot - scorching - global warming. 5. After that, there will be an eclipse of the sun - not like any we have seen in our lifetimes. It is one in which there will be gross darkness. When Jesus died on the cross, God, Himself, gave them a glimpse of what would happen as a result. The light (sun) went out for 3 hours which is longer than any eclipse. As Jesus died, it was midnight in the middle of the day. Everyone is affected by darkness-some continually talks about it; others scream. It is an unnatural atmosphere for those who have been made in the image of God, who is light. Man was never made to live in darkness, neither natural or spiritual. 6. There is a battle. It is the battle of Armageddon which takes place on the plain of Megiddo in Israel-a triangular plain about 10 miles across each way. It is the crossroads of the entire world. The road from Europe down to Arabia comes there; the road from Asia to Africa comes there. It is at the point where the continents meet. It is interesting that Sir Winston Churchill thought that the crucial battle in World War II would take place there. He was wrong because the armies that converge there will not come from the west, but from the east In China and India and the rest of the countries east of the Euphrates where 60%-of the-worlds population lives. 7. Last example of Gods anger is a bombardment of sinners from below and above. There will be the biggest earthquake ever known and the biggest hailstones ever seen. God clears the site first so He may build a new universe. He has to destroy one so that something new may arise. That is how God deals in re-creation. When He took your life, the old life had to go; it had to be crucified, dead, buried in baptism and risen to a new life. That is how God does his work.
