Revelations and awesomeness on my run tonight. I was on pace for - TopicsExpress

Revelations and awesomeness on my run tonight. I was on pace for a sub-30 minute 5K when I came to a hill. This hill was 1/2 of my last mile. It was huge! And steep! And scary! This hill was going to ruin my pace. I looked at my GPS watch and thought, I got this. Theres no reason why I cant. Its a giant scary hill, but if I concentrate too hard on how fast Im going or how far Ive gone, Im going to give up. So I made it to the top of the hill and finished out my 5K. I checked my watch. Not only had I just run a sub-30 minute 5K for the first time EVER, but the time for my last mile was the FASTEST of all! I NAILED that hill! Thats when it hit me: progress is like waiting for water to boil. If you keep too close of an eye on it, its going to look like youre not getting anywhere fast. Which means youll get incredibly frustrated, or give up and pop your food in the microwave. Or quit altogether. If instead you focus on the task at hand, and not on how well youre doing, youll go much farther, much faster than you ever thought you could. So whether its running up hill, losing weight, paying down debt, or just boiling water: stay focused on working toward your goal, not how close you are to it. Youll get there a whole helluva lot quicker.
