[Review 397] Title: R.I.P.D Director: Robert Schwentke Writers: Phil Hay (screenplay, story) & Matt Manfredi (screenplay, story), David Dobkin (story), Peter M. Lenkov (Dark Horse comic) Language: English Country: USA Genre: Action | Comedy | Crime | Fantasy Released in: 2013 Rating: 4/10 Review: Oh well, as usual when you take comic books for adaptation to the giant screen, you gotta be careful. Think how long it took to get Superman franchise straight right. Likewise it is always a danger in fantasy adventures in casting, directing and scripting. This one is one of the worst in recent years, do you agree? Except for Jeff Bridges play his game, actors were just like to be funny (bah, were they?). Bad script is the issue – it is lifeless, bored and out of the comic. Let’s just say, this duo Hay and Manfredi have not done good job in the past too; they always screwed up special effects integration to the story (as evident in Aeon Flux (2005) or Clash of the Titans (2010)). Thus the special effects becomes just “effects” in these films and evidently here as well. Look how shoddy and foggy the creatures are. Let’s just stop by saying RIP for R.I.P.D!
