Review: The Lyman Frank Baum (L Frank Baum) Series of Oz Book 1: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Part 17 of the Review of Book 1 Once they overcome the sleep that the Scarlet Poppy Field has placed them under, They finally arrive in The Emerald City. In the Movie, they all encounter the Wizard as a Demanding Voice, But in the Book, a Much Different Scenario plays out. First off, The Visit to the Wizard is not one day in length, as in the Movie, but in the Book the visit takes a few days, because the Wizard will only see one individual at a time. Also, they must wear Green Shades the entire time they are in the Emerald City. When each individual appears to the Wizard, he takes on a form appropriate to who he is meeting with, One who met him, met him as a demanding voice, This was the tin man if I recall, Next was Scarecrow who encountered him as a Beast, The Third was Dorothy who met him as a Beautiful Woman, and last but not least, Cowardly Lion, who met him as a Ball of fire The Wizard took on a personage that each person could encounter without fear. But of all, He demanded the Broomstick of the Wicked Witch of the west. So as in the Movie, Off they went to kill the witch The Biblical Symbolism here would be the Brilliance of the Wizard, for God is described as 1,000 times brighter than the earthly sun
