Review from Big Wheel Magazine: Too often these days, bands are focusing what little musical talent they may have on creating a carbon audio copy of some throwback sound. It’s a rare occurrence when the end is result is more than just cheap novelty. Valiomeierda proudly burn the torch of 80s hardcore and mid 90s groove metal all the while generating a sound that is familiar, but not boorishly unimaginative. With the grind of hardcore titans Hatebreed, speed of Motorhead and groovy chug of mid-career Sepultura, Valiomierda pound their way into your brain with their self-titled debut and each song is a circle-pit inducing bash-fest. Their brand of brutality is a welcome sound in the midst of bands with the mistaken understanding that “heavy” means grumbled vocals, intricate guitar work, obnoxious “deep” and poetic lyrical themes, over-use of the double-kick pedal, tight pants and hair in their face. Valiomierda are the epitome of what heavy should be -simple, straight-forward and mean. Typically I’d pick out a few tracks to highlight, but they’re all so dastardly good it’s tough to pick. The few tracks that scream just a bit louder than their counter parts are album opener, “Valio Mierda,” the spot on covers of R.D.P.’s “Crucificados Pelo Sistema” and Motorhead’s “Killed by Death.” Album closer, “Cono,” was recorded live and simply sounds incredible. It’s good to know, as a heavy music listener, that there are still bands out there that draw inspiration from the K.I.S.S. mentality of music. Plug in, play loud, throwdown and have fun.
