Review of Assassins Creed IV Black Flag: ACIV is probably my - TopicsExpress

Review of Assassins Creed IV Black Flag: ACIV is probably my new favourite of the AC series. Dont get me wrong, ACII was awesome and well-paced, but they had to go through 3 games to make it feel like a nice complete whole for Ezio. ACIV managed that in one game. ACIV, in terms of storyline, was well-paced and felt easier to relate to; A person, that wants nothing more than money in the beginning, realised that his goal of fame and fortune has done nothing more than cause/increase the conflicts around him, resulting in the death of most of his closest friends(?) and causing him more pain than anything else. It seems that this AC was trying to tell the story of mortality, that it shows that Edward is nothing more than a human, righting his wrongs, understanding the world is more than just about gaining what he wants. Compared against ACIII, where Conner is a whiny little mofo, never growing out of his immaturity from start to finish. Freedom as its motto? bleh, Immaturity more like it. Edward grows out of most of his immaturity, granted that he technically doesnt join the assassins, but he realises that everything he does has consequences, fulfilling the Everything is Permitted motto of the Assassins. Gameplay wise, its great. Sea battles are an intergral part of the whole experience, I end up spending more time on the seas to earn money than on dry land at any one given playthrough. Money early game trickles extremely slowly as I play, but then starts to waterfall as I play into late-game. Combat is AC standard, quite well done and doesnt feel messy. Assassinations are definitely more fun now (Considering I can chain assassinate with ease) and all the side-missions on land are now more focused, making it easy to concentrate on sea battles. The only downside I see in ACIV is the movement control on the PC, it still feels too loose. I end up spending more time restarting missions due to accidental movements that make me get caught. (I see they havent learnt to change that from ACIII) But as a general experience, I loved it, and it made me feel like I was home with the assassins once more. Definitely worth the playthrough if you like TPRPG. Also, with the addition of Multiplayer, it might end up taking more of your time. Now, with that said, excuse me while I go and collect my shanties.
