Review of the new LP by Dustin Ferguson, the guy who did a lot of video work for me on maldire and live show stuff. I had the opportunity to listen to the yet-to-be released (comes out Oct. 28th) Velvet Acid Christ VAC album Subconscious Landscapes. Here is my review: For fans of Velvet Acid Christ this album is a real treat. It feels almost like a best of album, but made up of entirely new tracks. There is something to please every fan here. In the past VAC would release albums that followed a certain subgenre, each album having a different sound and feel. As an artist, this is a positive thing (expanding your creativity) but for the fans, it can sometimes be negative. You release The Art of Breaking Apart and the hardcore dark electro fans are pissed, you release Maldire and the melodic, dark trance fans are pissed. This is a happy medium. It starts with the more melodic tracks (reminiscent of the Twisted Thought Generator EP) and slowly builds into the more harsh, dark electro similar to Calling ov The Dead, Fun with Knives and Maldire. This also feels like the most personal album. The vocal distortion is different with nearly every song, each perfectly capturing the proper mood of the song. This album was made during the tour and downtime from Maldire, which marked a rough era for Bryan in his personal life (relationships, tour mishaps and illness), and it shows (in a very positive way) in the album. He turned it all into his art. Its bold, interesting, different and even touching. I think fans will really feel connected with this release. Since I lean more towards the dark electro side of VAC, my favorite tracks are Strycnine, EyeH8U, Zalflex and Evil Toxin. Highly recommended to fans of VAC or dark electro in general. It certainly wont disappoint and its really catchy too! Pledge/pre-order today!
