Reviewing Interstellar tonight. There is another, different review I could write about Interstellar. It would be quite scathing, and it would focus on the films weaknesses, which are many. That review would talk about the appallingly clunky and expositional dialogue, the great contrivances in the script, about Nolans quite adolescent weakness for the twist, how every character – but the woman especially – exists only as a device through which Nolan can make some point, or drive some part of the plot forward. And how none of these characters seem like actual people, but just a convenient collection of weaknesses and strengths, with none of the human glue that softens, conceals, melds and complexifies genuine human nature. Yep, for all that and more, I could quite happily write a fairly dismissive and condescending review of Interstellar, and Im sure there are many people who will. But those people are what my dear old Mum used to refer to as prats.
