Reviews of Sovereigns: SOVEREIGNS is an album that can be compared to other black metal milestone albums like Mayhem’s De Mysteriis Dom Satanas, Darkthrone’s A Blaze in the Northern Sky or Marduk’s Opus Nocturne, Quorthon would have been proud of those tracks and would envy them... Metal Rules 4/5 Supported by the distinctive voice of vocalist and lead guitarist Nornagest the listener is led into icecold realms of the bizarre kind, ENTHRONED are successful as one of the few bands to play modern Black Metal in the year 2014 without sacrifice its darkness. Absolutely must-buy! Exterminal Mag 9.5/10 Der belgische Exportschlager in Sachen Black Metal ist seit Jahren ENTHRONED, die ihren Status mit jedem Album untermauern. Auf „Sovereigns“ fahren sie wieder herbe Geschütze auf, welches die Songs in einem großen Facettenreichtum erstrahlen lässt. Of Feathers And Flames` ist das erste große Highlight, denn hier schaffen es die Belgier einen bissigen Black Metal-Hammer zu präsentieren, der aber mit vielen ruhigeren Breaks gefüttert ist. Dieses Album mag vielleicht etwas vorhersehbar sein, da es eine konsequente Fortsetzung von „Obsidium“ ist, dennoch schaffen sie es abermals eine Black Metal-Scheibe erster Güte zu veröffentlichen. Legacy 12/15 Alors que tous les fans de Black Metal attendent avec impatience la nouvelle offrande de Mayhem également prévue pour cette année, Enthroned a peut-être déjà coupé l’herbe sous le pied des Norvégiens. Sovereigns, album de Black Metal de l’année ? Il est trop tôt pour le dire, mais les Belges ont toutes les cartes en mains pour réaliser ce tour de force. Metal Chroniques 9/10 The quality of their last albums and Sovereigns since Nornagest took over vocal duties set them apart from the pack even more than the original stuff with the band firmly nailing down their own particular homage to late 1990s black metal with style.Enthroned excel at the kind of slowly brooding, pulsing black metal that only really works if you’ve got the killer tunes to go with it, and Enthroned seem to have no shortage of those. Ave Noctum 8/10 SOVEREIGNS klingt überraschend stimmig, vital und ausgefeilt. Das Gesamtbild wirkt eine hymnische, okkult angehauchte Atmosphäre wechselt mit aggressiven Blastbeats. Die Songs wirken gut strukturiert, die Produktion ist der Stimmung treffend angepasst. So gesehen wirkt SOVEREIGNS bei allem Traditionalismus fast modern, denn die Stilmittel mögen weiterhin primär dem Black Metal geschuldet sein, doch der Fundus, aus welchem sich Enthroned bedienen, wirkt reichhaltig und keinesfalls altbacken. Definitiv ein empfehlenswertes Album, bei dem weniger einzelne Songs als der Gesamteindruck als solcher hervorstechen Metal Hammer 5/7 Waar ze vroeger min of meer als Dark Funeral ten tijde van The Secrets of the Black Arts klonken vertonen ze nu meer overeenkomst met Marduk, meer bepaald hun Rom 5:12 en Wormwood. Het beste is dat ze geen doorslagje vormen maar, wat mij betreft, in dezelfde stijl op, jawel, dezelfde hoogte staan. Wie dus nog eens een keiharde, tot in de puntjes verzorgde en vooral angstwekkend duistere metalplaat wil horen weet wat hij moet kopen. Deze komt in mijn eindejaarslijstje en, mijn directe omgeving weze gewaarschuwd, ik heb weer een reden om over mijn favoriete Belgische exportproduct (na Westmalle) te kletsen. Een goede plaat. Wat zeg ik, een HÉLE goede plaat!!! Dutch Distortion 9/10 Without doubt, “Sovereigns” is a great album that also comes with very good cult cover artwork and a killer production. ENTHRONED continue this winning streak by adding a stellar Black Metal release to their catalogue and I absolutely recommend it! Metal Koaz 8.5/10
