Revolutionarys regards to my fellow young citizen, I bring you salutations in the name of freedom. The sole aim of this post is to encourage young Nigerians to find and use their voices to advocate for change in our dear motherland. The future generation is counting on us, counting on us to speak up against bad governance and corruption, counting on us to speak up against ethnic and religious sentiments, nepotism and terrorism, counting on us to be the change that we desire. A greater percentage of young Nigerians are out of work or under-employed. Some may argue that this is due to failed government policies or in-action. Yet we fold our hands and do nothing. Many of us support the same political parties that have given us nothing but voltron posts on social media. We are in the sorry state we are today because young people have been busy chasing shadows and fighting ourselves. We are where we are today because young people have shown an ‘I don’t care attitude’ to governance, politics and national development. We are where we are today because most of us young people just don’t care. Young people must realise that they are in bondage if they can’t use their voices. Young people who are too scared to speak, too afraid to act and too petrified of taking a stance are simply in slavery and it is up to us to free ourselves from this cage. Anyone who cannot use his or her voice is almost dead and totally useless. We the younger generation must change our strategy of keeping mute which has failed us thus far. This strategy of keeping mute in the face of corruption and leadership incompetence must be jettisoned. I read lots of history and I lead life on the basis that if we don’t change and adapt our tactics from time to time, we become useless to ourselves and to our community. Young Nigerians need to understand that if we are standing still and remaining silent, we are already going backwards. We need to change our strategy. It is high time we began to re-orientate ourselves. As a starting point, young people must use their voices and express how they truly feel in the governorship election in the State of Osun next month. We have no guns, we have no bombs to throw at anyone, all we have is our voices and we must use it. Also, the coming presidential election in 2015 is an avenue to use our voices to express how we feel. If we are not speaking up, we won’t be heard. We must be united and present a single front on most issues. Only then can our voices be heard. We must not agree to be silenced and our voices shall and must be heard. We can all honestly agree that the pace of change in our nation is slow, increased investment in education and healthcare needs to happen, and it needs to happen fast. Increased involvement of youths in political participation needs to happen, and it needs to happen fast. These changes needs to be sped up and those of us who are natural change agents must continue to speak up and inspire others to join the advocacy for change. We must not get tired of speaking up and importantly in defence of the truth. Through hard work, diligence and sacrifice, we the younger generation shall make impact and change our country for good, we believe that we can and we will. Using our voices is a starting point.
