Rewind retro video of the day... From Marylebone (London), UK... here is Adam Ant with his 1982 single Goody Two-Shoes from his album Friend or Foe. The song was a Top-50 hit in Italy, a Top-40 hit in New Zealand and Poland, a Top-20 hit in Belgium, the Netherlands, and on the US Hot 100 chart, a Top-5 hit in Canada, Germany, Ireland, and on the US Top Tracks chart, and a #1 hit in Australia and the UK. The song deals with Ants anger toward the music press intruding on his personal life. The video reinforces this idea, providing a stylized day in the life of the clean-cut Adam Ant, from getting up in the morning, to performing onstage, to taking a journalist home with him. The songs title comes from an anonymous 1765 childrens story called The History of Little Goody Two-Shoes. The authorship is up for debate. Most attribute it to author Oliver Goldsmith, though publisher John Newbery and his friend Giles Jones have also been considered. The fable is a variation on the Cinderella theme. Goody Two-Shoes, the nickname of poor orphan girl Margery Meanwell, goes through life wearing only one shoe. She is an excessively virtuous person. One day she is presented with a pair of matching shoes by a wealthy gentleman, and she is so elated that she tells everyone that she has two shoes. She later becomes a teacher and is rewarded for her virtuous nature when she marries a rich widower. https://youtube/watch?v=o41A91X5pns
