Rewrote Ch1 of my book Discovery today, Here is a small chunk or anyone that cares to read it :) It describes Roland, a side character in the book. Everything in schooled seemed so rushed, go there, do this, memorize that. All crammed into such a short time period of the day. With what, a twenty minute lunch break that hardly let you relax, because by the time you even got to eating your lunch you had four of the twenty minutes to actually eat. It really is infuriating “Do you hate school?” I blurted to Roland, my mouth stuffed with food. Before he can swallow his food and answer I continued “I do, It’s crap really. What do we even learn here? Speed eating? Yeah when I exit high school I am going to hit the world champion hot dog eating circuit. Huh.” I grunted in disgust “Kobayashi better watch his title, because here comes the high school wonder kid ready to steal it from him.” Roland, seeing an opportunity to join in the rant interrupted with his best announcer voice. “And at such a young age he is ready to defend that hot dog eating title for years to come” Roland and I started to laugh, he was my best friend. Kind of my best friend, we hung out all of the time but he really was not the most reliable kind of guy. Roland, with his lengthy brown hair, just did not care at all. If you could quantify caring and put it into a measurement Roland would just ignore that whole system and keep not caring. Literally he could watch his whole family die, then he would just turn around and throw them a remembrance party on the spot. It was impossible to tell if this was a good or a bad trait, but Roland was always calm, cool, and collected. It helped him excel in sports especially football where he has a full ride scholarship to Oregon to play quarterback which he almost declined, because he just does not care. Now that is not to say that he shows no emotion. In a fight Roland gets this scary big smile on his face, like the only thing that matters to him is the fight no fear. The mindset probably helps him with football.
