Rhode Island adopters and Facebook fans - you have some - TopicsExpress

Rhode Island adopters and Facebook fans - you have some legislators in your state who appear to be trying to pass a bill that will require quarantine for 48 hours for any dogs being imported into the state that are not purebred dogs - yes, you read that correctly - if a breeder/puppy miller wants to send a dog to Rhode Island, no problem, send them along. If its a rescue dog, not purebred, quarantine for 48 hours. Because we all know that rescue dogs are loaded with disease that purebred dogs are not. More importantly, this was done it appears without the knowledge of Dr. Scott Marshall, the RI State Veterinarian - how that could happen is a mystery as well - RI rescues have all enjoyed a very good relationship with Dr. Marshall and his staff. He worked out a plan for rescue, we abide by it and it works - quarantine is done in the fosters home or the adopters home. No cages for 48 hours sitting there with other dogs who may well be infected with something so if a dog isnt sick already, good chance they may be when they get out of quarantine. Heres the link to the bill - read and see what you think - if you agree this is unduly prejudice and unfair in terms of rescue vs. pure bred breeder/puppy mill dogs, contact your legislator - also, ask them why this bill was put forth. Breeders are a very strong lobby in every state - we can guarantee a lobbying group for them is behind this. openstates.org/ri/bills/2014/HB7888/
