Ribbon Cutting Ceremony held August 22 by Nicole Shattuck The ceremonial ribbon was cut for The Sentinel and Rural News on Friday, August 22, 2014, as Community Forum Publishers Travis Rogers, Jr. (Editor-in-Chief), Kris Leonhardt (Business Manager), Judy Vollrath (Features Editor) and Nicole Shattuck (Associate Editor/ Graphics Editor) all manned the giant scissors. Clark County Economic Director Sheila Nyberg was first to step up to the podium. With a symbolic opening and slamming of The Sentinel’s charming red screen door she welcomed the new business to Clark County and congratulated the staff. The Sentinel and Rural News was also very honored to have Senator Terry Moulton, Bryce Luchterhand representative for Senator Tammy Baldwin and City of Owen Mayor Stephen Heggemeier offer words of support and congratulations. Mayor Stephen Heggemeier kindly presented a 1902 edition of The Withee Sentinel to Editor Travis Rogers, Jr. which will be proudly displayed in the newspaper office. In turn, five Burma Shave type signs painted by The Sentinel’s own Kris Leonhardt were presented to the city of Owen. They will be posted on the outskirts of town greeting visitors with the winning entry “Friendly, charming/ clean and pretty/ don’t we love/ our little city” written by Janet Hoover. These signs will be a pleasant greeting to those who enter the lovely city. The Sentinel and Rural News Editor and fearless leader Travis Rogers took the podium to welcome friends, relay his gratitude to all who have shown their support to the paper and its staff and share his vision for the new paper. The Sentinel and Rural News staff is so very thankful for all those who have shown their support since the first edition went out on March 26, 2014. Editor Travis Rogers was very pleased with the grand opening as he stated, “It was very rewarding to see Senator Moulton and Bryce Luchterhand (representing Senator Tammy Baldwin) greet us with such warmth and enthusiasm.... Features Editor Judy Vollrath eloquently recapped the festive event by stating, “I felt so honored by all of the friends and dignitaries who took time out of their day to come and sing the praises of our newspaper and of our hard work.
