Rich Shelley This is a problem throughout the country, not an isolated incident. The Postal Service has closed dozens of major and smaller sortation plants across the country, resulting in mail trucked, in some cases 100 miles or more to be sorted, and then trucked back to the originating destination to be delivered. Carriers are staying out after dark, sometimes as late as midnight; a carrier was murdered last week in the Washington, DC area delivering after dark. The Postal Service is not broke; it is being systematically dismantled to create service disruptions that will be used as an excuse for privatization. If the Postal Service was to be privatized, the American People will lose an excellent, dependable and inexpensive public service, Wall Street will once again feed at the trough on the billions of dollars in profits. Postal workers in the UK and Portugal are striking right now to protect and defend a public postal service that belongs to the people, not the 1%.
