Richards Ramblings for Sunday, June 22, 2014 I hope youve had a good week and you are planning to get rested up this evening. You need to get your rest tonight (Friday) because its gonna be a BIG WEEKEND! This Sunday is the Rocket City GLBT Pride Celebration. Happy Pride Day! On Sunday our worship service will begin at the usual time of 11 a.m. The service will be abbreviated so that we can dismiss and all get down to the Depot Roundhouse for the Rocket City Pride festivities. Yes, you read it right. The service will be abbreviated. I know most of yall dont believe that but it will be. Miracles still happen. It is amazing how God works. The Gospel lectionary reading is Matthew 10:24-31. There are very few Scripture passages that would be more appropriate for GLBT Pride Sunday than this one. The title for my abbreviated sermon is Dont Be Afraid! Im looking forward to preaching it. Also during Sunday worship, the choir will be bringing the special music. Its going to be an anointed time! Our church is a major gold-level sponsor of this years Pride celebration so you will be seeing a good bit of Spirit of the Cross throughout the day. Our church booth will be staffed throughout the afternoon. We will have information about our church and the clobber passages, free bottled water, SOTC giveaways, SOTC old-fashioned church fans, and face painting. I will be speaking and our church choir will be performing at approx 1:30 p.m. We will have a church float for the Pride Parade. You are more than welcome to ride in the float or walk behind it if the float is already full. If you want to watch the parade and encourage all the parade participants with your cheers, the parade route will start at the Depot Roundhouse and then travel to the Courthouse Square and then back to the Roundhouse. The Pride Parade will begin at 5 p.m. One other note . . . If you have a little extra time on Saturday (6-21), we will be gathering at the church at 12 noon to construct the float. The more we have to help, the quicker the construction will be finished. My understanding is that if we get done with the construction, we will all load up and have lunch together at a local restaurant. Grant Carodine is our GLBT Pride Coordinator. We can always use a few extra volunteers on Sunday. So if you havent already signed up as a volunteer and youre interested in helping out, check with Grant to see what positions need to be filled. This Sunday is huge! And it all begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday for our abbreviated, but powerful time of worship. I cant think of a better place to be to start off GLBT Pride Day than at Spirit of the Cross. See you in church! Until then. . . Gods abundant grace and peace, Bro. Richard
