Richmond Sheriff releases promotional video The video, shown to Augusta commissioners Tuesday, opens with a young girl bringing her father, a sheriff’s deputy, to career day at school, and then explodes into a montage of law enforcement scenes set to dramatic music. In the video, a SWAT team converges on a public housing unit, assault rifles raised, to rescue a boy; officers in dress uniform fold a flag from a fallen colleague’s coffin; deputies restrain unruly inmates and burst from unmarked vehicles; and crime scene investigators gather evidence. “We’re not just looking for good candidates; we’re looking for the best,” Roundtree says in a brief appearance. Lt. Allan Rollins, a public information officer for the department, said the sheriff’s office hired a professional production company to make the video using $10,800 in funds seized from drug dealers and criminals. “They are funding the recruitment of police officers to come catch them in the future,” Rollins said. “The citizens get the best of both worlds.” Roundtree, addressing commissioners Tuesday about the impact of $1.6 million in pay raises the commission authorized in this year’s budget, said the video complements other efforts in his strategy to recruit and reduce turnover among its ranks of 750 personnel.
