Ride the new Scottish C2C In 1994, Sustrans ranger David Gray - TopicsExpress

Ride the new Scottish C2C In 1994, Sustrans ranger David Gray launched the original C2C route from Whitehaven, Cumbria on the Irish Sea to Newcastle or Sunderland by the North Sea. Twenty years on, David has mapped a similarly scenic, traffic-light 121-mile Scottish C2C route from Annan on the Solway Firth to South Queensferry on the Firth of Forth. To celebrate this launch, David is organising three supported Scottish C2C rides over the next couple of months. The launch of the Scottish C2C is indeed a cause for celebration because the creation of safer routes like this encourages more people to discover the pleasures of pedalling. What’s more, the existence of a network of long distance routes encourages more people to explore different parts of our country. This in turn gives local authorities (who all want to encourage tourism) an extra incentive to improve their cycling infrastructure, with the happy result that locals who might only use a short part of the route can also benefit from the resulting improved cycling facilities. chain-events.co.uk/2014_scottishc2c.htm
