Ridge continues to move forward. Unfortunately its not at the pace he would like but we have to keep remembering that its forward. Just 3 weeks ago he couldnt breathe on his own, and 2 weeks ago he couldnt swallow even the smallest amounts of liquid as it was going into his lungs and not his stomach. So when we look back at over the past few weeks we have to remember that his progress isnt as slow as it seems. Today with the assistance of his physical therapist, and a walker, he was able to walk around the nurses station. He was exhausted and frustrated but it was steps forward. We also received some tests results back from the speech therapist and the good news is the results showed him to be above average when compared with other kids his age. Considering all of the strokes he has had, this is incredible. We also received the preliminary bone marrow results and they were good - thank you God! As of right now it does not appear that Ridges heart or lungs are permanently damaged. With a lot of hard physical work, we expect that Ridge will make a complete physical recovery. We dont know what the future brings but we do know that since the end of December we have witnessed a miracle. There is no reason to believe that cannot go on to achieve his dream of one day being a firefighter. It is my hope that this experience will give him endless compassion for those in need. The photos attached show an awesome blanket quilted by friends to remind Ridge that his dream is possible. The fire station outside our hospital window has lit up an R on their roof to show Ridge their support. The Tempe, Chandler, Phoenix and several other fire departments have been so amazing with their support. As for our friends, classmates and people in the community, the support has been endless. Weve received some of the most amazing dinners for the past 5 months. I cant tell you how much easier that has made things at home since one of us is with Ridge 24/7. Thanks to the help from Drew, Ridges new learning coach, Ridge is on target to graduate in May with his CdS classmates. The only thing we are really in need of is prayers and positive thoughts; and I know those are continuously coming because on days that I think I just cant go on, Ill find a peace come over me. I know without a doubt is all the prayers surrounding us. Thank you all so much!
