Ridiculous Amazon descriptions and how to deal with them TO: All POSTED:Jan-29 12:59 PM MountainWolf On a cold day, no orders to deal with, and firewood in and stacked, I thought it would be fun to solicit some feedback from colleagues on how best to describe a book for a Channel upload, and get it past the Amazon goalie and into the net without a kickback. Although the following example is meant as wit and irony, it is not far from what I am actually now using. Make believe Title: The Secret Love Life of Japanese Cinema Monsters Entry Example: Orange hard cover. PLEASE READ full description, and IGNORE Amazon photos. This is the hard cover edition in a bright orange dust jacket with a picture of a purple Godzilla on front, eating a green celery stalk. This book is hard cover, not a soft cover, and not a paperback. The dust jacket is that paper thing that wraps around the book. It is a very good copy. By that we mean that it is not discarded from a library, is bright, tight, clean and totally unmarked inside and out. That means there is no writing in the book. xxvi, 805 pages, photos, index, bibliography, botanical glossary of herbaceous plants preferred by Japanese Cinema Monsters. The dust jacket is not price clipped, which means that no one has taken scissors and cut out the original price. Furthermore, this copy is a first edition, dated 2015. Ignore any other Amazon provided date. And it is inscribed by Godzilla. That means that the signature is to another person. In this case it reads To my dear friend, Spiderman with stomping good wishes, G.Z. One couldnt ask for a better, more collectible copy. It is a hard cover. End of example. Can anyone think of suggestions or improvements. Also, can we safely assume that megalisters, Amazon staff, and the general reading public of today know what these words mean: xxvi, bibliography, glossary? How much do we need to put in a description beyond It is a boog, er, book, in acceptable condition. You can read it.
