Riek Machar in Military (March 3, 2014) The Rebel leader, Dr. Riek Machar has come up with a list of his cabinet, waiting to form an interim government as proposed in the on-going negotiation between the government and the opposition. According to a close source, Machar has done this in anticipation of the proposed interim government being discussed in the IGAD mediated peace talk between the government and the opposition in Ethiopia. The list of his cabinet is largely from the 21 members who were sacked by H: E President Salva Kiir Mayardit on July 2013. SST has been briefed that, in Machar’s interim government, he has appointed himself as the president of the republic, while the position of vice president has been left vacant; to be filled by other parties. It’s worth noting that the widow of Late Dr. John Garang will occupy the position of Minister of Interior and Wildlife Conservation, while Machar’s wife will operate as Minister of Housing and Public Utility in the interim government. The leadership of South Sudan is a duly elected government by the people of South Sudan during 2010 general elections and by virtue of these elections H.E President Salva Kiir is still a legitimate leader whose term is still valid till 2015. Therefore, the formation of an interim government comes contrary to the democratic ideal which the people of South Sudan subscribed for.
