Right about this time after Thanksgiving my father and I would go - TopicsExpress

Right about this time after Thanksgiving my father and I would go out and look for our Christmas tree. We would go to a place on Orchard St off of McCracken road between Lee and Broadway. (Garfield Hts.) It was a 5 acre Christmas tree farm owned by a Mr. Price. We would get all bundled up and go trekking all over this property looking for the perfect tree. We would then tag it sold with our name and then come back in a few weeks to pick it up so it would be fresh for Christmas I always looked forward to doing this with my dad he always left it up to me to make the final decision on which tree looked the best. I can still remember Mr. Price with his checkered coat and hat and face as red as a tomato from being outside all day in the cold. There was an old garage barely standing that was about fifty feet long all weathered and patched up many times over the years. Mr Price always had a small fire going in an old barbeque grill that we would stand around talking when we were done making our selection. Me and My dad carried on this tradition even after I got married. We would always pick out our trees together. I remember one year I insisted on driving because I had an old Dodge Dart beater car and we would save his car from getting all full of needles. We picked up our two trees jammed them in the trunk and drove home to Arch St. When we got home we noticed that the trunk was empty. We were having such a good time that we didnt even notice that we lost the trees on the way home. We jumped back in the car and retraced our route and sure enough on the side of McCracken road was our two trees laying there. We were astonished that nobody picked them up. My dad joked that we should do this all the time because when the trees fell out and rolled down the street all the loose needles were shaken off.
