Rights to particpate in resource decisions disappear in Queensland: Today a very important right has been stripped from rural communities and conservation groups. Their right to object to the Queensland Land Court against the biggest of the big mines has been ripped away. Instead the pro development Coordinator General who sits in a Brisbane office tower can choose to block your rights. Jo Bragg Principal Solicitor of EDO Queensland said: ‘On 9 September this vampire law was sneaked into parliament at midnight to suck away your objection rights. Today the vampire law strikes. This is a black day for rural communities and conservation groups alike. We will keep fighting for change.’ Rural groups and conservation groups from the Darling Downs to Central Queensland to Northern Queensland alike have pleaded with the government not to strip their rights away, to no effect.
