Rituals do not come out of a VACUMN, just as there is a philosophy and symbolism with it, there is also a SCIENCE associated with it. Being of a Scientific mind, I have tried to analyze , find the LOGIC behind calling the GANGA, a holy river. First , lets look at the ORIGIN OF THE GANGA. The Goddess had said, that if she comes to earth from the heavens, there will be MAYHEM, destruction everywhere, so someone had to bear her weight, tane her fury. Lord Shiv, agreed to bear hear on his JATA. The HIMALAYAS, represent the JATA of Shiv.As the Ganga emerges from Goumukh, the Himalayas TAME the river and by the time , it reaches Hardwar, it becomes a GENTLE STREAM. Next, the PURITY of water is rated by the measure of its DISSOLVED OXYGEN (DO) In the Lab, it is presented as BOD ( Biochemical Oxygen Demand). The more the DO , the purer the water. The Ganga, for millions of years had the HIGHEST DO of all river waters and that is why it remains Crystal Clear, even after years of storage, while ordinary water becomes TURBID in a few minutes. The DO ensured that the Ganga was teeming with LIFE; decomposing bacteria, algae, multiple varieties of fishes and the TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN is the MAKAR, the Ganges crocodile, the VAHANA (vehicle) of the Goddess, and also the RIVER DOLPHINS, which ensures that the Ganga remained free of decomposing material and dead bodies. But today, overpopulation , pollution, unsustainable development has led to the GANGA WATER losing its purity,ganga MAILI ho rehi hai, the MAKAR and River dolphin are extinct species along with many fishes and these days the GODDESS is very angry, and when she gets angry, WOH TABAHI MACHAYEGI and Shivji bhi hume nahi bachayenge, as was seen in Uttarakhand last year. Think guys, where is our CIVILIZATION heading for HAR HAR GANGE.
