Riverland Stage Band - Day 3: everyone was up on time this morning so we got away on time. First up was a workshop with the Trinity Bay HS stage band. We joined our bands together to play 2 of our charts (Birdland and Jazz Police) and 2 of their charts (Lester Leaps In and a vocal arrangement of Skyfall). Skyfall is an excellent chart so I will be looking for that one when we get back home. The school was huge with 1500 students. We performed to all of the Performing Arts students - about 300. We played our set of about 10 charts then finished off with the 4 combined charts. Again a really good performance from the band and it was good to hear and socialise with the Trinity Bay students. Each performance is kept fresh by changing our repertoire for each of the performances by changing and adjusting our repertoire to suit our audiences. After lunch we hit the water to Green Island on one of the supercats (huge motorised catamarans) for the afternoon. Most people hit the pools or the beach. Food is &$#@ expensive there!!!! The trip over was a bit rough and a couple of students were a bit seedy. It was helped by hopping straight onto a glass-bottom boat to see the reef. Everyone was very excited by the reef - the giant clams, Nemo, huge fish and the turtles (or are they tortoises?). A bit of a downer when a Japanese tourist had to be resusitated with CPR for about an hour before the emergency helicopter came and took him back to Cairns. A couple of the girls were a little spooked by this but are good again now. The band and students are making a lot of friends here through their music and friendliness. Tomorrow- another HS performance and then the Skyrail to Kuranda and back.
