Rivers State Commissioner for Health Samson Parker says a Nigerian Diplomat who is a primary contact with the Late Patrick Soyer sneaked into Port Harcourt from Lagos and is suspected to have infected a Medical Doctor Iyke Sam-Enemuo who died of the Ebola Virus in Port Harcourt. Dr. Parker while confirming the outbreak of Ebola in Rivers State, told correspondent Daniel Semeniworima that the late doctor Sam-Enemuo ignorantly treated the Nigerian Diplomat at a Private health facility in Port Harcourt. He said the Diplomat is now well and alive but Doctor Iyke Sam-Enemuo died on Friday August 22 with test results showing that hedied of Ebola Virus Disease. The Commissioner for Health said 100 persons including primary and secondary contacts of the late Dr. Iyke Sam-Enemuo have been placed under surveillance and that Sam-Enemuo’s wife who is now ill, has also be quarantined. Dr. Samson Parker noted that Health surveillance officers have decontaminated the Hospital and Hotel used by the index case while the public is advised to call these numbers; 0 8 1 6 7 7 3 3 9 3 or 0 7 0 3 6 3 2 1 7 6 to report any suspected case of Ebola. Our Correspondent reports that, people are now being scanned before they are allowed entrance to some public hospitals while experts from Emory University Hospital in the US are on ground to train Rivers State Health Officials on how to tackle the outbraak.
