Roadside Safety Checkpoints Begin Tonight In Columbia Beginning this evening, Friday, May 9, the Columbia Police Department and the Illinois State Police have teamed up in a Click It Or Ticket / Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over road safety checkpoint along Route 3. This evening is the first such safety check in a series of ones which will take place through the Memorial Day Weekend. “An emphasis will be placed on seat belt compliance and impaired driving,” said Columbia Deputy Police Chief Jerry Paul. The CPD will focus on the Admiral Parkway (Route 3) corridor where a majority of the town’s serious crashes occur. “Our officers are dedicated to making the roadways safer for our citizens and everyone driving through our community,” said Paul.
