Rob Anders and Stephen Harper The situation in Crimea, the Ukraine and Russia continues. Yesterday, the majority of citizens in Crimea who voted chose to separate from the Ukraine and join Russia. There are over 1 million Canadians who are of Ukrainian heritage. This is a massive voting block which every party wishes to appease. Yesterday, a rally was held in front of the Calgary City Hall where Anders and other Conservative leaders gave speeches. Anders did not disappoint. “And I also agree with the idea that military action should not be ruled out because I think for somebody who is a thug like Putin, its what he understands, Anders said. Anders did not stop there. He went on to give the US military advice on how to deploy their naval fleets “And I think that message is not just words. I would very much like to see the U.S. Fifth Fleet move into the Black Sea and the George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier move into the eastern Mediterranean,” he said. So, Rob Anders, the guy that labelled Nelson Mandela a communist terrorist, the guy who said that Thomas Mulcair sped up Jack Laytons cancer, the guy who has the work ethic of a communist (he sleeps on the job in Parliament) decided that the wise course of action would be to take on Russia militarily. Russia which has: 4,650 active nuclear warheads which is dispursed as such: Land based Strategic Rocket Forces: 489 missiles carrying up to 1,788 warheads; they employ immobile (silos), like SS-18 Satan, and mobile delivery systems, like SS-27 Topol M. Sea based Strategic Fleet: 12 submarines carrying up to 609 warheads; they should be able to employ, in a near future, delivery systems like SS-N-30 Bulava. Strategic Aviation: 79 bombers carrying up to 884 cruise missiles. Even the other Conservative MP who was at the Calgary rally had to step away from Aderss comments. Now lets look at Stephen Harper. PM Harper has been taking a tough and aggressive stance on the situation in Ukraine. He sent John Baird there, and even went there himself. He has attacked Putin, the referendum and anything pro-Russian. Meanwhile at home, a very similar situation is happening that may lead to a Crimean styled event; a possible leadup to a referendum in Quebec. What happens if Quebec decides to leave, but the city of Montreal and Aboriginal groups decided that they want to remain in Canada? Unfortunately, while Harper has been loud on its views in the Ukraine, here in Canada, they are, remaining silent.
