Rob Underwoods post here is a must read by anyone in the tech industry. For me, it goes deeper, though, for two reasons: 1. I have an autistic son. Sorry, he isnt going to be the next Mark Zuckerberg or Marissa Mayer (he will forever deal with social and language and inclusion issues). His future depends on everyone coming together to make sure he has a decent life and is included in our society. 2. I work for a company, Rackspace Hosting, that now is a global company. We have 1,000 employees in London, for instance, and offices all over the place. So I am spending a lot of time thinking about what that means and how even my own arrogance affects people who work with me around the world. I, too, find many of the comments made by folks in the tech industry quite embarrassing and offensive. But, I cant change others, so am looking to change myself. Im sorry for the part Ive played in building up the tone-deaf arrogant culture that is quite often seen in the San Francisco Bay Area (AKA Silicon Valley).
