Robbie Fowler believes Liverpool can reap the benefits of increased squad depth following a busy summer of transfer activity. Nine players were drafted in by Brendan Rodgers over the course of the window, with only Divock Origi not in contention for a first-team berth after returning to Lille on a season-long loan. Fowler feels the heightened competition for places will enable the Reds to challenge once again this term. Full credit to the management and everyone involved in the recruitment process, weve gone out and signed players who can fight for positions all over the pitch, he said. Youve got the full-backs, the centre-halves, all fighting for places. Nobody is really guaranteed a place, and thats the way it should be. Of course, we all sort of know what our best first XI is, but there are a lot of players who can come in and impress, and who will be hungry to do so as well. I think its as good a squad as weve had for many years at Liverpool. Fowler added: The team is great, and you know now that if you get injuries or suspensions in the first XI, there are people who you would feel comfortable bringing in. Thats the result of a very good summer in the transfer market. ( James )
