Robert L. Symons Reducing bands to duos and solos has been going - TopicsExpress

Robert L. Symons Reducing bands to duos and solos has been going on for years so thats nothing new…drummers turned programmers when drum machines appeared, pianists turned multi keyboard players when horn sections disappeared and so on….I agree that the economy has had and continues to have have an impact on our bread making but then thats the way it goes and yes we all had a good run for a while but things change and we must pay attention to the tides and adjust accordingly if you want to stay afloat…I find that now days a musician must have some knowledge of business and creative marketing…also to determine and define your target market…Gone are the days when you can get a steady paying gig in bars on the corner or a pub on a saturday night, weddings are seasonal, corporate gigs are iffy because of the collapse and private cocktail and dinner parties are scanty since they have less to celebrate about…As a soloist I find it easier to move about and I have spread my musical product over a number of options world wide that generate income so although its a challenge I find it rewarding and interesting…every day is a fishing day but not every day is a catching day…sometimes you land a cow polly and sometimes a snapper, the occasional shark and the rare time, a whale…remember the times when you played and everything that you played came out perfect, sound, execution, all that and you then say to yourself it made it all worth it..so appreciate the moments, stick to to wicket and the runs will come…I can testify to that….so reinvent, repackage and resell…and enjoy the ride!…I do this shit for a living!
