Robert Tillett The north has supported the opposition in the last general election and for that they are now being used as pawns in a political game orchestrated by the opposition to the detriment of the northern cane farmers. At the eleventh hour when the BSCFA was about to sign a government brokered agreement, opposition agents matura and ortega were able to advise them that they were no need to sign the already agreed and negotiated agreement since they can go to court and force BSI to accept cane without an agreement. this puzzled me for a long time because i took it at face value. I wondered how anyone can be so naive, anserine not to see that this process would inevitably HURT the farmers because 1. fundamentally if a court can force the status quo the farmers are in negotiations to change the status quo 2. if the court can force BSI to receive cane it can at another point force the farmer to provide cane (this is highly disadvantageous to the farmers) 3. the practicability of achieving it is painful Now it is clear to me when I now see that the opposition operatives were working for their leader. The entities of GOB, BSI, BSCFA are all losing in this state of confusion the only one benefiting are the OPPOSITION. The decision of the leader of opposition to use the very poor farmers who gave his party support in the last election, to use those people to their detriment for the sake of political power is sad, wrong and litigious. The leader of opposition, his northern caucus and his operatives has in my view gravely miscalculated the wisdom of the caneros and will pay a high price when it is all over!
