Roberto Pena started his martial arts training over 30 years ago. His very first encounter with martial arts was in the Ueche Ryo style of Karate under the instruction of Gustavo Gondria. It was not long after that Roberto found himself learning from Master Chen Ching Wen, who introduced him to the Sao Lin Szu Shian Men style of Kung Fu, which ultimately became his passion and doorway to his future. For the first time under Master Wen’s guidance, Roberto was introduced to a complete training system in which meditation and Bioenergy was integrated in its foundation. The system focused on all aspects of the human body, including the mind, body, and spirit. Continuing to draw inspiration from this all-encompassing system, Roberto was able to expand his knowledge base in many areas. After his immigration to the United States, Roberto competed in the 6th World International Kuoshu Championship, a pivotal point in his marital arts career. His constant drive to further his knowledge and experience led him to achieve black belt status in Ikedo, another southern system of Kung Fu, Tai Chi, & Chi-Kung. During his competitive years until present day, his practice with Thai monks also furthered his experience and awareness. 2006 was a very monumental year in Roberto’s personal growth and life journey. He traveled to Beijing , China where he was a featured fighter in a film documentary about pressure point knock-out’s. During the film shooting he had the opportunity be with Master George Dillman in the prestigious Shaoling Temple, an experience he will never forget. It was during his travels to China that he was also exposed in Beijing tongren hospital to traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture treatments, and health message techniques, all fundamental practices he continues to incorporate. Over the last 20 years, his focus shifted to more of an internal approach where he combined principles of multiple teachers, Zen meditation techniques, and a combination of martial arts styles. His internal teachings were greatly influenced by Guru Sri Mataji Nirmala Devi, who mentored him on the application of energy. Rooted in the ability to understand energy fields and chakras systems, Roberto specifically focused on learning how to apply energy to heal one self and others. His internal work was also furthered by Master Seok Seo Park, who taught principles of acupressure, heeling , hi also learn for different teachers reflexology, and polarity, all forms of massage therapy. More the 12 years , Roberto conducted group sessions in mediation and energy work within his community. These non-for-profit classes were meant to empower his students with a variety of his teachings including meditation, metaphysical applications, counseling, and energy treatments. Today, Roberto continues to lead a very active lifestyle. Even though he no longer competes in martial arts, movement is still an integral part of his every day training and teachings. Additionally, he incorporates his long-lasting love of Tango dancing into his personal growth, pushing himself to both perform and compete through dance. He leads his students by example and inspires others to become the best they can be in whichever field or style they decide to pursue. At the core of his philosophy, he believes that many internal and physical problems occur from lack of movement both physically and internally. He advocates that movement is the key to living a holistic and fulfilling lifestyle, a philosophy that he stands by for every aspect of ones life. “ ROBERTO OSCAR PENA “I have everything I need, the rest is a gift.”
