Rochester NY. I arrived in Fairport (just east of Rochester) and rode out a thunderstorm along the canal. My cart provided pretty good emergency shelter against the heavy rains and wind. At Fairport, while looking for some provisions I met Julie and Bob who run the Red Bird Market (a very nice market specializing in local products). Julie and Bob offered to host me for the night. They made me feel right at home and I was very glad to get to know them. The next morning I set off along the trail again to arrive at Brighton NY (a suburb of Rochester). There I stayed with Kate and Mike. Kate recently produced a film about climate change called Comfort Zone: a Local Climate Change Movie that does a great job of explaining the local consequences of climate change and how we can change our own activities to minimize our impact. I spent the July 4th with Kate and her family and friends. I had a wonderful time and a good sleep last night.
