Rocky Mountain tested many different geometry configurations to find the best race geometry for a variety of terrains. It has been said that 29er bikes cant handle technical terrain; however Rocky Mountain has aimed to prove this a misconception. With a tighter wheelbase of 1087mm (medium) and a chainstay length of 433mm, the vertex is able to tackle some tight and technical terrain. Rocky Mountain has crafted the Vertex with less bottom bracket drop. This decreases pedal strikes and also brings the rear wheel in further, making the Vertex feel more like a 26? bike. Finally, Rockys team riders have chosen a headtube of 70.25 degrees. After extensive experimentation with different head tube angles, the team unanimously concluded that 70.25 is a perfect balance of stability and agility. Constructed of Smoothwall? Carbon, the frame delivers the best stiffness-to-weight ratio, ride quality and durability possible. This is achieved through strategically placing multiple types of carbon in specific locations to maximize stiffness and impact resistance, while minimizing overall weight. The tapered head tube adds noticeable front end stiffness while adding very little weight to the frame. The Vertex 990 RSL frame also features internal cable routing to protect cables from dirt and grit, and of course for a sleeker, handsome look. The Vertex 990 RSL is stacked with an impressive outfit of high-quality components. Up front the 990 RSL is equipped with a Rock Shox SID RL with 15mm Maxle Lite and BlackBox carbon crown steerer. The SID RL offers 100mm of travel with motion control DNA, rebound and remote lockout. Rocky Mountain knows zero compromise can be made when it comes to drivetrain performance, which is why SRAM X0 was chosen. X0 also rounds out the brakes and brake levers to provide maximum stopping power. The complete DT Swiss wheelset will be certain to keep you rolling like a king for miles and miles. The Rocky Mountain Vertex 990 is a race ready beast with no shortage of precious carbon fiber parts and high quality components. Climb aboard, fall in love and dont look back! Rocky Mountain History Rocky Mountain Bicycles humbly began in the basement of a Vancouver British Columbia bike shop, in 1981. The employees first imported bikes to sell to their customers. Later, they began manufacturing and importing frames to their exact specifications. Rocky Mountain now produces mountain bikes, road bikes, and urban bicycles. The company has come quite a ways from their modest beginning; however, their core values have never wavered. Rocky Mountain Bicycles is just as sought after now as they were in 1981.
