Roger F. Duff: The Name that is above every name: יהוה (YHWH - YaHuWaH) Because His Name is His Character, no other name that mankind can dream up will fit. Many titles describe aspects and traits such as: El, or Eloah - Mighty One, Strength, Power Elohim - Plural form of El, Eloah El Elyon - Most High El El Shaddai - Almighty El El Olam - Everlasting El Immanuel - El is with us As much as those titles above and many others give us an insight as to various aspects and traits of our Creator, our Mighty One/our Strength/our Power, all of these words have, to some extent or other, also been used to describe men and things over the centuries even unto today. The word el and its plural form elohim have been used to describe fallen angels and demons in Scripture.The word el has even been used in Scripture to describe men with the Creator Himself speaking through the prophet, saying: I, I said, You are elohim, And all of you are sons of the Most High. -Psalm 82:6 So as much as OUR Elohim is YaHuWaH and He is the Most High El, there are other elohim such as the messengers of heaven (angels) and those cast out of heaven. In Israel, judges are referred to as elohim as a mark of respect. So all these words cannot constitute a name for our Creator.
