Rolled into the Gold Coast yesterday, and rolled right out again - TopicsExpress

Rolled into the Gold Coast yesterday, and rolled right out again today: Far too hot and humid. Im back in higher country (Warwick). But while I was at the coast, I visited the Dunlop tyre outlet at Burleigh. As the image shows, one tyre, the drivers front, has worn right back in only a small part of the inside - between 25% and 30% of the tyre, The other tyres are fine. Theres been no pulling on the steering wheel, and the tyre is less than a year old. I took it in for a new tyre, and asked them to check what had caused it, as the new tyre would go the same way. While they were doing that I went to Fleays Wildlife Reserve with the camera for a couple of hours. When I returned, they had not been able to find a cause, and were certain that despite there being no pulling on the steering, its almost certainly a wheel alignment problem (I go off-road, gravel roads, and hit potholes almost daily.) Dunlop said the rest of the tyre was great and had a lot of wear left, so rather than ditch it they simply rotated it to the rear, where it runs on the centre part - the part with mucho tread. The rear tyre that theyve put on the front now, will be due for replacement within a year probably, so is a better tyre to experiment with. They said to monitor it, and if it starts to show the same wear pattern, theyll need to dismantle the steering rack, examine the pinions, the bushes, the bolts - everything. But if its just a wheel alignment issue, theyve fixed that. So thank you Dunlop at Burleigh, a pat on the back: You saved me money today. You could easily have sold me a new tyre, but you showed integrity, which is not common enough in business.
