Romans 8:13-14 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. God has been working on my heart a lot lately. He has been showing me what sacrifice truly means. Think of it this way, God gave us the world, God gave us life, God gave us will power to choose what way we want to live, God gave us brains to think, God gave us love, emotions most of all God sacrificed Himself, God sacrificed part of Him, His son so we can be close to Him. He started teaching us about precious sacrifice in the old testament by having the Israelites sacrifice the best of their flocks, and crops so that His glory could be with them. Our sin separates us from God, there is no way we can repair that separation by ourselves. Once God sacrificed Himself for our sins we live under grace, we no longer have to make the animal or crop sacrifices as they did in the old testament. But as Bill W. and the 12 steps say we need to become powerless in order to gain power over our addictions. Our sacrifice now to feel His glory here on earth is our will power, our hearts. What I have found when I am trying to rule my life by my own thinking or what feels good to me I have royally messed up my life, and my children’s life. Just how is the Lord asking you to sacrifice of yourself to be close to Him today? What do you need to admit you are powerless over controlling to gain His power over it?
