Rooting for underdogs and seeing upsets tends to be fun and exciting as long as its not at the expense of your own team. However, Im starting to be somewhat frustrated by the randomness in baseball. Its almost as if too many upsets happen in the playoffs. They have a super long 6-month, 162 game regular season, and then the best teams frequently bow out to lesser seeded opponents in October. I dont care if the Royals win the World Series. There is no logical way to convince me that they were better than Angels who finished with a much better record and also straight up have more talent. How does it even make sense that the Tigers get swept by the Orioles? The Tigers marched out 3 Cy Young Award Winners and the Orioles trot out mediocre, barely known starters. They have a good bullpen, but dont even have Machado or Davis playing. The idea is to create a system where the best team usually wins right? In baseball I would say the actual best team in a given season rarely comes out winning the championship. Does anybody else second this sentiment of annoyance to have a lengthy 6-month season of excellence routinely rendered irrelevant once the playoffs start?
