Rosedale Recycles Contact Margaret Weber [email protected]; 313-938-1133 November 7, 2014 November 15 is America Recycles Day and last collection day for Rosedale Recycles! Detroit, MI…After 24.5 years offering a monthly recycling drop-off site for Detroit residents, Rosedale Recycles will celebrate America Recycles Day and the advent of citywide curbside recycling at Christ the King parking lot in northwest Detroit, Pierson north of Grand River, on Saturday November 15, from 10 am until 2 pm. November 15th will be the final regular collection for the longest operating recycling project in Detroit’s history. In 24.5 years, Rosedale Recycles has collected 2,782 tons of recyclables, an average of 116 tons per year or 9.66 tons per month. These numbers do not include tons of hazardous waste collected in conjunction with the City and EQ Environmental, hosting a paper shredder on site twice yearly, or electronics collected with the donated services of Information Systems Resources. For the past several years, Rosedale Recycles’s primary recycling vendor has been RecycleHere. Rosedale Recycles has been a steady presence in northwest Detroit, and a strong advocate for citywide curbside recycling. As a founding member of Zero Waste Detroit, Rosedale Recycles is excited about the new option for residents, and proud of its history. One recycler, Richard Castillo, said, “Its not really ending. Its like sending your kids off to college.” In addition to offering a place to recycle, Rosedale Recycles has been a place for students to earn volunteer hours. Matthew Rogan began his volunteering as a National Honor Student at Cass Tech High School. His mother Judith Rogan praises Rosedale Recycles with these words: From a sons school project, to a family commitment and awakening to God’s plan for limiting our wastefulness.” All residents are invited to participate in this final day of Rosedale Recycles’ 24.5 years of recycling. A paper shredder and electronics collection will be on site. In addition to a small memento, participants will receive tips and resources for reference. The non-profit will be encouraging residents to take advantage of the curbside recycling services that soon will be operating in all areas of the City. Rosedale Recycles encourages residents to invite Zero Waste Detroit to neighborhood, block, and community meetings to learn more about the curbside recycling: [email protected]. There is a one-time $25 fee for the recycling cart. Detroit residents on the west side, contact ADVANCED Disposal to opt in.
