Rosemarie these photos of Northolt may be interesting for members with any memories relating to air travel in the earlier days. The Photos were taken in 1954 when I was going to Edinburgh. I travelled in a BEA plane which I believe was called a Pioneer being a civilian version of the Dakota. When flying the noise inside was louder than a tube train in a tunnel. The dedication of the plane was to John Alcock but I can assume his flight with Arthur Brown in their Vickers Vimy was somewhat less comfortable and our landing was more successful ! The journey took two and a half hour which I think averages about 160 mph. During the flight we were offered a tiny bag of sweets to suck to offset any pain in the ears (cabin not pressurised). I took the pictures whilst waiting my flight. The planes shown are not Pioneers. Does anyone recognise what they were called ?
